Familia, parochia, schola, societas-sodalitas… Family, parish, school, society- association... It could be a lenghty enumeration of fundamentally religious communities that determined people’s daily lives in the past centuries and were widespread and significant in our archdiocese as well. These local communities are placed in the focus of attention by the AAK Communio project with the intention of discovering and presenting sources important to the historical research of mentioned communities. We can accomplish this goal by processing the archives of the parishes, because this is where fundamental data of Catholic families and local religious communities have been summarized. We are convinced that information content of vital records and other local sources can truly be effective only together, complement each other well. This is why we process the mentioned contents together.
In the last two decades we also experienced significant growth of interest in family and local history research in our archives, providing approximately 75 per cent of our regular researcher and client visits. This outstanding interest from researchers deserves special attention from the archivists as well, besides the academic considerations these practical aspects were important at the birth of the Communio project.
